Cheney Brothers, Inc. officially opened its first South Carolina food distribution facility in Florence County on June 17, 2026.

This major development represents a total investment of $108.5 million and is expected to create up to 700 jobs when the facility is fully staffed.

The state-of-the-art facility is located on a 50-acre site at 2491 Florence Harllee Blvd within the Pee Dee Commerce City East Industrial Park, right off Interstate 95.

Designed and constructed by A M King, the property spans 386,047 square feet and includes:

• Cold Storage: Over 90,000 square feet of freezer space and 60,000 square feet of multi-temperature cooler space.
• Logistics: 45 loading docks engineered for high-volume food distribution.
• Culinary Kitchen: A 3,364-square-foot test kitchen, making it the largest culinary kitchen developed by the company to date.
• Cheney Express: A dedicated retail grocery outlet open to the public, offering discounted restaurant-quality food and wholesale bulk items.

Economic and Employment Impact

The broadline food distributor—which handles everything from meats and seafood to restaurant equipment—originally broke ground in the area in 2023. Prior to the facility’s grand opening, the Florida-based company had already committed an additional $42.5 million expansion to add 85 jobs beyond its initial hiring phase.

The plant’s job openings span from logistics and warehouse operations to information technology and professional careers. Cheney Brothers is collaborating with readySC, a specialized workforce training division of the South Carolina Technical College System, to recruit and train local applicants.
